We plan to move forward with the proposed change during this annual update.
Brief Description of Measure:
CMS144: Heart Failure (HF): Beta- Blocker Therapy for Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD):
Percentage of patients aged 18 years and older with a diagnosis of heart failure (HF) with a current or prior left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 40% who were prescribed beta-blocker therapy either within a 12-month period when seen in the outpatient setting OR at each hospital discharge
Description of Issue:
The numerator in the measure narrative states “…prescribed beta-blocker therapy either within a 12-month period when seen in the outpatient setting OR at each hospital discharge,” but the logic does not limit the prescribed medication to "within a 12-month period" when seen in an outpatient setting.
This isn't a logic issue but rather a narrative issue. The intent of the measure is to determine if the Beta Blocker was prescribed during the measurement period, which is reflected in the current logic.
Proposed Solution:
Update measure numerator narrative to state "…prescribed beta-blocker therapy during the measurement period…"
Rationale for Change:
The proposed change will align the measure numerator narrative with measure intent and logic.
