ASPS would like to request that PCPI consider adding 99024 to the acceptable office visit codes for the Preventive Care and Screening: Tobacco Use: Screening and Cessation Intervention measure.
The measure currently requires 2 visits in order to report it. For many surgeons, although they may see the patient multiple times, they cannot always bill a second office visit as pre-op and post-op visits are included in the global billing for the procedure. 99024 is a follow-up visit, non-payment CPT code required in 9 states. Adding this code would allow surgeons in those states to report this measure, with 99024 representing the second visit.
ASPS advocates for more states to require reporting this code, as well, so hopefully this would eventually broaden reporting of this measure.
Thank you for your consideration.
